Our Leadership

At GLBC, we sit under the leadership of a plurality of elders. We believe that Scripture demonstrates several examples where leadership plurality is practiced and that the duties of the ministers are best distributed among several men who are fit to teach, exhort, and lead the people of the congregation.

Our leadership is made of up three elders: Matt McPhillips, Kyle Floyd, and Tim Floyd. They compliment each other’s strengths and weaknesses by fulfilling duties in teaching, worship, and administration, respectively. Together they are able to balance the responsibilities of church leadership with those of household leadership, leaning on one another and providing counsel, edification, and admonishment to one another. By not consolidating unchecked authority in any one person, GLBC keeps church authority in the hands of pastors that it has ordained instead of resorting to a board of deacons or other unbiblical mechanism to maintain transparency.

In addition to our elders, GLBC is also served by three deacons, each one assigned to an elder for delegation of regular tasks.

Below you can find a glimpse into each of our pastor’s lives, written by themselves.

Pastor Matt McPhillips

Teaching Elder

Born in November 1970 and raised in a small town in Michigan, I have been a member/pastor at Grace Life for 19 years. As the pastor it has been a privilege and self-maturing means of grace in my life. I have experienced the joys of new Christians growing and older Christians passing. I am thankful for the work God has done in my life through my membership/pastoring time at Grace Life. I currently work in the law enforcement field and God has used this to demonstrate to me the importance and source of strength that the church is in the life of the believer. I have challenged myself by participating in endurance sports. I have completed two full Ironman competitions, three half-Ironman, and will be running in the Boston Marathon in 2019. One of my greatest joys has been pastoring with my family. My wife of 24 years has been a rock to which I often rest. I have enjoyed watching my three children come to Christ and serve in Grace Life. While they each have grown and now serve in their own churches, (oldest son at Grace Life) I am thankful for the grace of God in my family. Through my years in the 82nd Airborne Division, time working on a dairy farm, and career in law enforcement, I have seen the means of grace the church is to all believers. Come and experience the Grace Life, we would love to worship with you around God’s Word and congregation.

Pastor Kyle Floyd

Worship Elder

Born and raised in Port Huron, MI, I am the worship elder for Grace Life Baptist Church. I was born again at the age of eighteen and began serving in the ministry a few years later. My hobbies include watching sports, driving cool cars or trucks, singing, reading, and playing video games. Some of my favorite things to eat (although I’m not picky) are steaks, omelets, and Chinese food! My passion, however, is preaching and teaching God’s Word and regularly leading the people of Grace Life in worship. I have a deep desire to see worship that is formed and fueled by proper theology. My wife Brittney and I were married on June 9, 2007. We have two daughters, Addyson and Mackenzie. Together we all enjoy serving at Grace Life and hope to see many other families saved, strengthened, and serving the Lord in their church, to the glory of God.

Pastor Tim Floyd

Administrative Elder

Born in May 1971 and raised in Port Huron, MI, I have been privileged by the grace of God to worship each week alongside both my extended Floyd family and the same local church body I was born into. I am a husband, father of four, and business owner with over 20 years business development experience in the manufacturing industry. Personal interests include a love for classic cars and serving as head of communications on the board of directors for Mainstreet Memories Car Show, Inc. I graduated locally from Community Baptist School, and later attended Cedarville University where I studied Bible and Business Administration and met my beautiful wife. As the Administrative Elder to GLBC, my experiences in business have equipped me to support the behind the scenes organizational and financial activities for our church body. It is a privilege to serve with God’s people and experience the grace He intended for His local church.
