Leadership Structure
At GLBC, we sit under the leadership of a plurality of elders. We believe that Scripture demonstrates several examples where leadership plurality is practiced and that the duties of the ministers are best distributed among several men who are fit to teach, exhort, and lead the people of the congregation.
Our leadership is made of up two elders: Tim Floyd and Dean Butterfield. They compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses by fulfilling duties in teaching, missions, outreach, and administration. Together they are able to balance the responsibilities of church leadership with those of household leadership, leaning on one another and providing counsel, edification, and admonishment to one another. By not consolidating unchecked authority in any one person, GLBC keeps church authority in the hands of pastors that it has ordained instead of resorting to a board of deacons or other unbiblical mechanism to maintain transparency.
In addition to our elders, GLBC is also served by three deacons: Ted Sadler, Matt Lawrence, and Jeff Wilson. Likewise, they utilize their respective talents and spiritual gifts in service of GLBC and its membership.
Below you can find a glimpse into each of our pastor's lives, written by themselves.
Elder Tim Floyd
Born in May 1971 and raised in Port Huron, MI, I have been privileged by the grace of God to worship each week alongside both my extended Floyd family and the same local church body I was born into. I am a husband, father of four, and business owner with over 20 years business development experience in the manufacturing industry. Personal interests include a love for classic cars and serving as head of communications on the board of directors for Mainstreet Memories Car Show, Inc. I graduated locally from Community Baptist School, and later attended Cedarville University where I studied Bible and Business Administration and met my beautiful wife.
As an Elder at GLBC, I leverage my experiences in business to support the behind the scenes organizational and financial activities for our church body in addition to preaching the Word in rotation with my fellow elder Dean. It is a privilege to serve with God’s people and experience the grace He intended for His local church.
Elder Dean Butterfield
Born in July 1973 in Toledo, Ohio where I was raised until I left for college at Anderson University (Anderson, IN), graduating with a degree in Family Science. I met my beautiful wife Lori in 1998 and got married the following April in Valparaiso, Indiana before starting our family in August 2001. After starting a career in social work, I began vocational ministry as a Children’s Pastor in September 2003 at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Longmont, Colorado. We then moved to Port Huron, Michigan in January 2007 to accept a position as a Children’s Pastor at Colonial Woods Missionary Church – serving there until August 2011. I transitioned out of vocational ministry and currently work as a technical project manager for a residential mortgage banker.
Our family started attending Grace Life in the Spring of 2012. In 2016, I was voted in as a deacon over worship-related areas, and in January of 2025 I was voted into GLBC’s plurality of elders to handle missions, outreach, and rotating pulpit duties.
I also enjoy rooting for the best college football team ever – THE Ohio State Buckeyes – as well as continuing to work on a personal health journey by working out and strongman activities. As a father of 6, they are my most important ministry and one that continues to challenge my faith and reliance on the grace of God. My hope is to serve our Grace Life family in faithfully preaching and teaching the Word.
