Our Guiding Principles

Whenever a group of people come together for a common cause, it is important to have some principles to guide them for the unity and focus of everyone involved. These four principles are used to keep us focused and unified as we serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

1. To Give Christ The Preeminence – Colossians 1:18 says, “And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the preeminence.”  The word preeminence means simply “first place.”  Our first and most important guiding principle is that we will give Christ first place in all that we do.  Whether it is our church, our ministries, our marriages, our families, or our personal life, we seek to give Christ first place in it all.  We live for Christ; therefore, we seek to give Him control of our lives and purposes for living.

2. To Unlock The Truths Of God’s Word – Matthew 4:4 says, “…It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”   The Word of God is God’s instruction manual for believers.  It tells us how to give Christ the preeminence in our lives.  We learn the Word of God primarily through verse by verse study.  Each week the pastor and the congregation work through a book of the Bible in order to learn it as God gave it.  Through this method, we learn to have a balanced Christian life void of extremes and men’s opinions.  Our preaching could be described this way, “The Bible, the whole Bible, and nothing but the Bible!”

3. To Further The Gospel Of Jesus Christ – Philippians 1:12 says, “But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the Gospel.”   The apostle Paul suffered many hardships and trials for the cause of Christ, yet he rejoiced that these things furthered the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  We strive to further the Gospel of Christ through our lives and church.  It is the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ that has changed our lives, and it is the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ that can change your life.  So, we exist to further the Good News that JESUS SAVES!  Every aspect of our church is for this purpose; there is no greater way to give Christ the preeminence than by spreading His Gospel.

4. To Edify Each Other – Philippians 2:2–5 says, “Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife and vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”  The word edify means “to build or lift up.”  We seek to build up one another in Christian love as Christ has built us up.  We strive to live peaceably with all men as stated in Romans 12:18.  We do this not in our own strength; but through prayer, Scripture, and the Spirit of God.  We are not here to strive with each other but to strive together for the faith of the Gospel (Philippians 1:27).
